David Coleal, President, Bombardier Business Aircraft 30.11.2018

Thanks for participating in our Q&A series, David.  Bombardier has been a leader in business jets for quite some time. With the C Series moving to Airbus and the recent sale of the Q400 aircraft program on the commercial side, will there be an increased focus on, and increased capital for, the business aircraft division within Bombardier?

David:  Bombardier is definitely re-affirming its commitment to its high-performing business aircraft division. Bombardier Business Aircraft is delivering strong performance quarter after quarter, steadily investing in its various platforms and growing its portfolio. This year and next are extremely exciting for Bombardier Business Aircraft, with customer deliveries beginning on the Global 7500 aircraft this year, and the newest members of the Global aircraft family, the Global 5500 and Global 6500 aircraft, on track to enter service in 2019. With our expanded Global family and our industry-leading Challenger and Learjet platforms, we expect Bombardier Business Aircraft to further increase its market share and its revenues.

The Global 7500 aircraft is now certified and offers nearly the range projected initially for the Global 8000 aircraft. With the largest and longest-range aircraft in its class, how do you expect the Global 7500 jet to stack up against its competition, and with the range improvement on the Global 7500 jet, is there still a need for the Global 8000 aircraft?

The Global 7500 aircraft sits in a class of its own at the top end of the market, as the most spacious and longest range business jet ever built. The aircraft’s recent certification confirms what we’ve been saying all along about its advanced design and ability to not only meet but exceed, industry standards. No aircraft comes close in terms of performance, innovation, spaciousness and a smooth ride.

So it’s not surprising that the Global 7500 aircraft is commanding so much attention – the two flight test vehicles at our static display at this year’s NBAA in Orlando caused a sensation, and our backlog continues to grow.

The Global 8000 aircraft continues to be part of Bombardier’s development program, but our attention right now is focused on the Global 7500 aircraft entering service this year.

Does Bombardier expect a competitive response to the Global 7500 aircraft?

The Global 7500 aircraft raises the bar and sets a new precedent that others will be forced to follow. Our flagship, clean-sheet Global 7500 aircraft is certified and will enter service this year as the largest and longest-range business jet ever built. It connects city pairings that have been out of reach till now and offers the only true four-zone configuration in the industry. Our smooth ride technology is the envy of the competition. And when it comes to cabin experience, this aircraft brings the comforts and amenities of home to the sky better than any other, with patented Nuage seating that will redefine the flight experience. And the Global 7500 aircraft’s fully-appointed kitchen can create gourmet meals far and above what is currently possible in the skies.

So will the competition respond? We set the bar very high, so there’s a long road ahead for our competition. We expect the Global 7500 aircraft to remain the leader.

The new Global 5500 and Global 6500 aircraft introduced at EBACE will provide strong competition near the top of the market, thanks in part to their impressive range. How do you see these aircraft stacking up against the Gulfstream 500/600 in the marketplace?

The Global 5500 and Global 6500 aircraft outclass the competition for several reasons. These aircraft will enter service next year as the undisputed range leaders in their segments, at 5,700 and 6,600 nautical miles, respectively. Their brand-new, purpose-built Rolls-Royce Pearl engines provide outstanding fuel efficiency and reliability. The wing on the aircraft has been optimized, providing an improved maximum speed of Mach 0.90 and delivering the evolution of Bombardier’s signature smooth ride. Both aircraft have the widest cabins in their class for the most space and comfort.

Inside the cabin, Bombardier’s leadership is on full display: the patented Nuage seat is a revolution in comfort, the first new seat architecture in business aviation in three decades. And the Nuage chaise, which goes from flat surface to a reclining lounge seat, is a first in business aviation.

Furthermore, the Global 5500 and Global 6500 aircraft feature the industry’s first and only true combined vision system (CVS), which seamlessly blends Synthetic Vision and Enhanced Vision to give pilots the most information in a single glance.
Customers who choose the Global 5500 and Global 6500 aircraft will get an aircraft that outclasses the competition for all the above reasons, plus the winning DNA that makes the Global platform so popular.

The Bombardier Challenger platform is facing new competition – from the Cessna Longitude and potentially Hemisphere, as well as Embraer’s newly-introduced Praetor – but it has been holding its own in the marketplace. What plans does Bombardier have to refresh the mid-sized segment of its product line, and should we expect to see a new aircraft before 2026 in this category?

We are extremely confident in our Challenger platform, whose performance speaks for itself with more than 1,800 aircraft in service. Our Challenger 350 and Challenger 650 aircraft are best sellers in their class, so we are not surprised that the competition is making some moves. However, the Challenger platform is a success story for many reasons, from the fact that we delivered a winning platform right from the start, to its smooth ride, ramp appeal and true, full-fuel, 8-passenger range guarantees. And as we are constantly improving these aircraft, their future is stronger than ever.

Service and support are critical for business aviation customers. How is Bombardier innovating in that regard?

No one knows our aircraft better than we do, so no one can service them as well as we can.

Bombardier has been growing its support presence worldwide over the last few years, with more than 60 facilities across the world dedicated to customer service and support. We recently announced a new service center at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport, growing our footprint in Florida and boosting our ability to support customers in one of the most important geographic areas of our global network. In 2017 alone, Bombardier introduced five new line maintenance stations, opened service facilities in Tianjin and Biggin Hill, and expanded its service center in Tucson.

We have a world-class Customer Response Center based in Montreal to address any customer needs 24/7, and a Mobile Response Team that is growing rapidly: in addition to our fleet of trucks, we have two dedicated aircraft – a Learjet 45, based in the U.S., and a Challenger 300 aircraft, based in Europe – to quickly deliver parts where they are needed.

Customer support is one of the fastest-growing sectors of our business because we want to ensure that our customers get the most out of our world-class aircraft.

Thank you for participating in our Q&A series.

EBITDA before special items(1)(2) estimated to increase by ~30% in 2019 over 2018 guidance to $1.65B-$1.80B
EBIT before special items(1) estimated to grow by ~20% in 2019 over 2018 guidance to $1.15B-$1.25B
Free cash flow(1),  including one-time items, estimated to be breakeven +/- $250M in 2019
Normalized 2019 free cash flow (excluding one-time items) estimated to be in the range of $250M-$500M
2020 financial objectives reaffirmed: revenues over $20B; EBITDA before special items over $2.25B; EBIT before special items over $1.6B and $750M-$1.0B of free cash flow generation

All amounts in this press release are in U.S. dollars unless otherwise indicated.

Refer to the Caution Regarding Forward-Looking Statements, Caution Regarding Non-GAAP Measures and Assumptions sections at the end of this press release.

Bombardier (TSX: BBD.B) today released its 2019 business unit guidance and confirmed that it remains on track to achieve its 2020 financial objectives. The 2019 guidance reflects the anticipated closing of the sale of both Business Aircraft’s flight and technical training activities and the Q Series aircraft program as of September 30, 2019.

For 2019, Bombardier is targeting revenues of $18 billion or more, representing a year-over-year increase of approximately 10% over 2018 guidance. This growth is expected to be driven by: (i) the entry-into-service of the Global 7500 aircraft, which is sold out through 2021; (ii) execution on Bombardier’s strong $34-billion rail backlog, which covers more than 80% of Transportation’s targeted 2019 and 2020 revenues; and (iii) an increased focus on aftermarket services across the portfolio. Aftermarket revenues are estimated to grow from approximately $3.5 billion in 2018 to approximately $4.0 billion in 2020 as the Company continues to optimize its aftermarket and services operations, leveraging its large installed base which includes over 100,000 rail cars, more than 4,700 business jets and approximately 1,250 regional jets(3).

Profitability is anticipated to grow faster than the top line, and is expected to be driven by solid conversion on revenue growth and the strategic reshaping of Commercial Aircraft. EBITDA before special items is targeted to grow by approximately 30% over 2018 guidance to a range of $1.65 billion to $1.80 billion, while EBIT before special items is targeted to increase by approximately 20% over 2018 guidance to a range of $1.15 billion to $1.25 billion.

From a free cash flow perspective, 2019 is expected to mark the transition from a heavy investment cycle to a strong growth and cash generation cycle. Sustainable capital expenditures(4) are projected to decrease to approximately $800 million or less on an annualized basis, which represents a decrease of approximately 50% from the previous five-year average.

On a normalized basis, before one-time items, Bombardier estimates free cash flow in a range of $250 million to $500 million for 2019. One-time items that are expected to impact free cash flow in 2019 include; (i) a $250-million charge for the previously announced restructuring; and (ii) a working capital contingency of $250 million largely associated with the intense ramp-up of the Global 7500 program. Free cash flow including these one-time items is targeted to be breakeven plus or minus $250 million, resulting in an estimated cash on hand exceeding $3.0 billion by year end.

Along with announcing its 2019 business unit guidance, Bombardier reaffirmed its 2020 objectives of revenues in excess of $20 billion, EBITDA before special items over $2.25 billion, EBIT before special items over $1.6 billion and free cash flow between $750 million and $1 billion(5). In addition to generating strong cash flow from operations, Bombardier anticipates ending 2020 with strong liquidity(6), including more than $3.5 billion of cash on hand and a significantly improved leverage ratio.

“Three years into our turnaround plan and Bombardier is a much stronger company,” said Alain Bellemare, President and Chief Executive Officer, Bombardier Inc. “We are confident in achieving our 2020 objectives and see tremendous opportunities beyond 2020. As we continue to execute our turnaround plan, we are building a company with great products, strong backlogs and an efficient cost structure, capable of delivering superior financial performance well into the future.”

The Company will provide an update on its turnaround plan and discuss its 2019 guidance and 2020 objectives at its annual Investor Day later this afternoon. A live webcast of Bombardier’s Investor Day, along with the corresponding presentation, will be available at The webcast will begin at 2:00 pm EST on Thursday, December 6, 2018 and will be available on the same website afterwards.

Hallo zusammen,
Danke schon mal,

12.12.18 10:11
MONTREAL, Dec 11 (Reuters) - New Jersey Transit’s board will decide on Wednesday whether to award the first part of an order for up to 999 cars worth as much as $3.6 billion to Bombardier , a copy of the agency’s Dec. 12 agenda shows.

The board will vote on the purchase of 113 multilevel passenger vehicles, including passenger amenities and parts, for $669 million.

The deal also includes options for up to 636 vehicles for New Jersey and an additional 250 cars for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) worth a total of $3.6 billion if fully exercised, according to an executive director’s report attached to the agenda.

The contract would be one of the largest orders for Bombardier’s North American rail business in years, if all options are exercised.

The agenda confirms a Reuters report in November, which said Bombardier was the preferred bidder for the contract.

NJT, the largest statewide public transportation system in the United States, with over 900,000 daily riders, has been criticized by commuters and public officials for delays and breakdowns. An audit published in October concluded that its operations were “inefficient” and “unsustainable.”

The Multilevel III Vehicles will feature new customer amenities such as USB ports, an infotainment system, LED lighting, power restroom doors, and a video surveillance system, the agenda report said.

Chinese state rail company CRRC Corp was also vying for the contract.

NJT had ruled out the competing bid from the Chinese company, although it was not immediately clear why. CRRC, the world’s largest train maker, has made inroads in the U.S. market, winning orders in Chicago and Massachusetts, but faces pressure from U.S. tariffs on Chinese steel and components.

The New Jersey order would be a boost for Bombardier, which in 2016 launched a turnaround plan for its rail operations in the Americas, following complaints by customers of delivery delays and manufacturing concerns.

Bombardier Transportation, the company’s largest unit by revenues, with a $34 billion backlog, aims to lower costs and boost margins by expanding its more lucrative signaling and services business.

Bombardier spokeswoman Maryanne Roberts called the NJT agenda items “an encouraging development and we look forward to the board’s decision tomorrow.”

A New Jersey transit spokesman referred Reuters to the board agenda.

Wäre dann Bomba ein mögliches Ziel für eine Siemens Fusion ?

Waren ja schon mal vor Alstom im Auge von Siemnes
Ich glaube Siemens waren aber die Schulden zu hoch von Bomba.

LONDON/MONTREAL (Reuters) - The European Commission?s decision to block a tie-up between Alstom and Germany?s Siemens is fueling speculation over possible merger talks between the French rail business and Canada?s Bombardier, lifting both companies? shares on Wednesday.

Sources, including French officials, who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive matter, agreed that a potential Alstom-Bombardier merger would likely face less resistance from regulators, but one noted that such a deal could require divestitures in France.
